Ek vertel verder oor die Smithfield-Skou

deur Hennie Prinsloo ~ (Hennie Prinsloo was one of Smithfield’s best-loved characters. This is another of his popular contributions to SmiffieNews in its printed format. Terwyl ek president was het ‘n grappige insident plaasgevind...Read more

DBU-Smithfield hou damesoggend

Farming in a Time of Drought

From the NWGA ~ There is mounting evidence that the country will experience dry and hot conditions towards the summer season. These conditions may promote regional or localised drought. It is recommended that medium and shorter-range weather forecasts be monitored for the development of conditions that may alter or strengthen the expectation of the current forecast. In response, the NWGA has set up a category with the title DROUGHT MANAGEMENT on its website in an effort to proactively assist farmers with drought management. Links to articles relating to the effective management and feeding of...Read more

Bridge in Smithfield!

By Kitty Schneider ~ A few months ago, I was asked by friends here in Smithfield, whether I played bridge. I replied that I had learnt to play it when I was in high school (about a century ago) but hadn’t played since then and couldn’t remember how, really. I enjoy playing card games like Canasta and such games where “tricks” are won, and so I thought I would try to learn how to play bridge again. (I’ve also heard that it’s very good for the old grey cells, which I realise are good to look after, in balance to my inevitable aging and some ‘sins...Read more
